Introduction 

The Green Climate Fund (“GCF”) is a multilateral fund created to make a significant and ambitious contribution to the global efforts towards attaining the goals set by the international community to combat climate change. 
GCF will contribute to the achievement of the ultimate objective of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In the context of sustainable development, GCF will promote the paradigm shift towards low-emission and climate-resilient development pathways by providing support to developing countries to limit or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and to adapt to the impacts of climate change, taking into account the needs of those developing countries particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. GCF is governed by a Board, composed of an equal representation of developed and developing countries. The Fund is operated by an independent Secretariat headed by an Executive Director. 

The Fund seeks to recruit a Media and Corporate Communications Assistant Consultant to carry out the tasks, duties and responsibilities, deliver the set deliverables and provide support to the hiring unit as detailed below. The consultant will join GCF team on HQ based. The assignment is for an initial 9 months-month period

Role

The Media and Corporate Communications Assistant Consultant will report to the Acting Head of Communications and will be responsible for editorial support in the development and production of corporate communication materials and supporting the coordination of internal communication initiatives.  The Communications Department, under the Division of External Affairs, shapes and raises GCF’s profile, brand image and digital presence among top-tier international media and key global audiences, including high-level policymakers and political leaders

Duties and Responsibilities

The Consultant will be responsible for but not limited to:

 

Under the guidance of the Acting Head of Communications, the Consultant will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Support executing GCF’s external relations strategy by developing and delivering external communications products for various audiences, including traditional and social media assets; human interest narratives and impact stories; thematic briefs; donors reports; corporate brochures; PowerPoint presentations; messaging points targeted to key audiences; corporate collateral; etc.

  • Support communications for stakeholder outreach & engagement and resource mobilization activities.
  • Assist in the coordination of internal communications initiatives that include all-staff meetings, staff intranet, sharing/disseminating comms products with staff, etc.
  •  Support key functions of the Communications team as necessary – speechwriting, media relations, etc.
  • Follow and safeguard that the messages, style and tone are in line with GCF principles and brand identity and ensure GCF logo is used in adherence to logo guidelines.

 

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, international relations, finance, economics, sustainable development, climate policy, environmental sciences, etc.
  •  2+ years of professional work on communications-related initiatives, preferably within an international organization, PR agency, government, private sector or non-profit organization, etc.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in editorial and content production; knowledge and experience in other functional areas such as speechwriting, media relations, corporate messaging, digital communications highly preferred.
  • Excellent written, editorial and analytical abilities coupled with strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (native-level fluency); knowledge of other languages a plus. Writing text may be administered as part of the recruitment process.
  •  Experienced in working with colleagues from different functions and cultures and ability to establish and maintain relationships with key partners.
  • Good political judgement and understanding of multilateral processes and climate finance.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with InDesign and other design/publishing software preferred.
