Independent Integrity Unit Intern

The Green Climate Fund is the world’s largest dedicated multilateral climate fund and invests in impactful, innovative, catalytic programs and projects in developing countries across the globe. The GCF has a portfolio of 286 projects across 133 countries, with a total commitment of USD 15.9 billion to date.

Internship Assignment  

The Intern will provide operational and administrative support to the ​Independent Integrity Unit (IIU) of the Green Climate Fund​1. S/he will have the opportunity to learn and expand her/his experiences by either: 

• Providing assistance in the IIU’s capacity building of GCF Personnel and Accredited Entities, and in IIU’s outreach and awareness raising activities on integrity standards; or 
• Providing assistance in the IIU’s investigation function. 

Under the overall guidance of the designated primary and alternate supervisors within the ​IIU​, and depending on the capacity and interests of the Intern, s/he is expected to, alternatively: 

• Regarding capacity-building and development of integrity knowledge products: 
  • Provide support in the content development and design of knowledge products for GCF Personnel and Direct Access Entities (DAEs), including related research work; 
  • Provide support in the planning and coordination of capacity-building activities, including trainings and webinars for GCF Personnel and DAEs; and 
  • Perform additional tasks as may be required by designated IIU staff. 

• Regarding case assessments and investigations: 
  • Conduct benchmark studies to support case reviews, assessments, and reports taking into account line of decisions by the International Labour Organisation Administrative Tribunal (ILOAT) and counterpart investigative offices as applicable, and international best practices; and 
  • Support awareness raising initiatives on reporting channels (integrity hotlines), whistleblower/witness protection, investigation standards and procedures, Prohibited Practices, and other themes relevant to the investigation function of the IIU. 

Requirements and Qualifications 

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Master’s or PhD program in ​international law, criminal justice, social studies,​ or related fields; 
• Knowledge and experience with ​international development, climate finance, and/or environment-related events or projects;​ 
• Good understanding and experience in the operations of international organisations is an added advantage; 
• Proficiency in using standard software programs, such as but not limited to MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access; 
• Excellent writing and presentation skills; and 
• Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language in particular French, Spanish, and/or Portuguese is an advantage.
