Introduction
The Green Climate Fund (“GCF”) is a multilateral fund created to make a significant and ambitious contribution to the global efforts towards attaining the goals set by the international community to combat climate change.
GCF contributes to the achievement of the ultimate objective of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In the context of sustainable development, GCF promotes the paradigm shift towards low-emission and climate-resilient development pathways by providing support to developing countries to limit or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and to adapt to the impacts of climate change, taking into account the needs of those developing countries particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. GCF is governed by a Board, composed of an equal representation of developed and developing countries. The Fund is operated by an independent Secretariat headed by an Executive Director.
The Department of Communications (DCOM), within the Office of the Chief Strategy and Impact Officer (OCSIO), shapes and raises GCF’s profile, brand image and digital presence among top-tier international media and key global audiences, including high-level policymakers and political leaders.
The DCOM is currently seeking a Senior Communications Writer who will carry out the tasks, duties and responsiblities and provide support to the DCOM as detailed below.
The consultant will join the GCF team remotely. The assignment is for an initial 105 days over a seven (7) -month period and the expected start date is as soon as possible.
Role
The Consultant will report to the Head of Corporate Communications and will be responsible for writing and editing communication materials that enhance internal coordination and understanding of GCF’s corporate priorities, to be published primarily on the GCF intranet, and other internal communication channels.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Consultant will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Drafting and editing of communications products in support of DCOM and across the different Offices and Departments of the Secretariat to aid in the communication of GCF’s impact and to enhance access to the Fund;
- Supporting the delivery of reports, briefing notes, web content and other products, and ensuring consistent corporate voice as well as deliver of high quality content;
- Assignments are likely to include drafting of products related to GCF’s corporate communications, including its 50 by 30 vision, as well as materials related to GCF programmes and events, and in support of publications, both online and offline.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of relevant working experience in communications with Master's degree in Communications, Event Management, International Relations, or a related field or
- Minimim 9 years of relevant working experience in communications with Bachelor's degree in Communications, Event Management, International Relations, or a related field
- Must have substantial knowledge and experience in editorial and content production; knowledge and experience in other functional areas such as speechwriting, media relations, corporate messaging, digital communications highly preferred.
- Excellent written, editorial and analytical abilities coupled with strong organizational and planning skills.
- Proven experience in delivering communications products for international organizations.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position, knowledge of another UN language an advantage.
